Fans aren’t letting Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles off the hook after they made a rape joke involving Bill Cosby.
During a Q&A at a Supernatural convention in New Orleans, the two actors were asked to share pick-up lines with the crowd. The actors proceeded to tell the fans that their particular pick-up lines were too inappropriate for the current setting.
Since the actors and cast members are well known for sharing their humour at other events, the fans continued to ask to hear the joke in question.
In the end, Jared proceeded to say, “Does this rag smell like chloroform to you?” Which Jensen responded with, “No, Bill Cosby.”
Even though the crowd at the convention shared a quick laugh with Ackles and Padalecki, other fans were quick to share their opinion on the subject.
Many fans took to Twitter and Facebook to let the actors know that the joke was inappropriate and wasn’t funny.
“I’m glad they got called out,” said fan Isis Collins. “Rape jokes aren’t funny whether it’s a friend or my idols making them.”
The anger towards the actors quickly caused an uproar between fans as some began to defend the actors.
Some fans believe the actors simply shared a popular joke which has already been shared by many comedians in the past.
“Jared and Jensen are being treated unfairly about the joke that was told,” said fan Jessica Wuellner. “Even though it’s been told a billion times.”
Ackles and Padalecki have been known to make jokes involving drugs and sex during Q&As with fans in the past, but none have received this kind of backlash.
Some fans have begun calling for the cancellation of future panels involving the pair.
As a response to the backlash, the actors have since released a statement saying they condemn all sexual harassment and assault.
