The Fanshawe Falcons improved their record to 10-0 as they defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers 25-22, 25-18, 25-16, in OCAA men’s volleyball in Hamilton Thursday (Dec. 7).
The Mountaineers dropped their third straight match to fall to 3-6, as their first semester came to an end.
Cole Jordan led the Falcons with 11 kills and eight digs. Will Otten had six kills and Mike Liscumb had five kills and one block. David Gundrum provided 22 assists.
For the Mountaineers, Mitch McFadden collected eight kills, one ace and one block. Brandon Koklis had eight kills, two blocks and seven digs and Alex Tripp had 22 assists.
Mohawk’s first-year head coach Steve Stone said Fanshawe is a very tough opponent. “They came in undefeated and they left undefeated,” said Stone. “They’re one of the top programmes in the league for a couple of years. They’ve got a good coach and they work extremely hard on defence. I think for sure they have a little more maturity than we might have with our young team, but I think we had them for a little bit. But we had a few lapses along the way, that kind of coughed up the game to them.”
The teams pose in their green t-shirts to support mental health awareness.
Even though the Mountaineers lost, there was a positive tone to the evening, as it was ‘Green Out Night’ for Mental Health Awareness at Mohawk. All proceeds from the evening were donated to a local mental health charity.
